[color="#000080"][/color] Just bought an old tongue in groove dynamite box to use on a gun cart. Is there anything I cn use to for a sealer or protector so the paint doesn't weather away any more?

I'm no expert so someone else may have a better idea, but I used Trisodium Phosphate (TSP) to clean mine and when it was thoroughly dry I put a coat of flat exterior varnish on it. That should look great on your cart. Good luck! <br />

Your best bet would be to get to a good paint/hardware store. You want the highest UV rated coating. Unfortunately some varnishes don't adhere to painted surfaces and you mention paint on the box. You have to ask someone at the store who isn't just a clerk and knows what their talking about. The other disadvantage is that your spar varnishes (which is what you'll probably end up with) are at a minimum Semi Gloss and usually High Gloss and I don't think you want that finish. <br />

I've used what I believe was "McKulsky's Spar Varnish" in semi gloss (I think that was the name, I know I have spelled it wrong.) with success. I have an oak spiral stair case in my house that I coated over seventeen years ago and it is just now starting to show any wear. Good stuff and a very high UV rating as there is a sky light over the stair case. You are not concerned with wear as much as the UV rating, although my stairs had to put up with both.<br />

You also don't mention spray or brush. There are some spray plastic coatings that might work well for you also. That's what I coated the "cowboy" on my trailer hitch with and it has held up very well.

I like to use a product by MINWAX called HELMSMAN SPAR URETHANE. It is available in spray cans or brush-on and you can get it in Satin finish, semi-gloss or gloss. It is meant for outdoor use, goes on easy and works great. I have used it on gunstocks, the wood on my guncarts and a portable shooting bench. When you put it on something the wood stays that shade "forever" because it contains UV blockers.
