Christmas giving

Christmas is the season of caring and sharing. So every Christmas, Mild Millie & I try to give something to a good cause, usually the Salvation Army as we know the money goes to help people in need and not to line the pockets of the administrators.<br />

But this year is going to be different. We have our own tragic story of need right here on the Good Guys Posse - our Pards Longdrink & White Thunder. As you know, Longdrink has been battling cancer for several years and his wife, White Thunder, is now in the hospital with a brain aneurysm. She has been in the hospital for a month or so now and may need to have extensive rehabilitation after she is released. The cost of gas alone to visit her is a major drain on their finances. And I'm certain that medical costs will be very high even with insurance.<br />

Longdrink and White Thunder are fine folks and many of us are privileged to call them our friends. They don't complain or ask for help but they surely could use some support from the cowboys this Christmas season. The Rough Riders (GGP Board of Directors) have already raised well over $700 among themselves and it sure would be great if we could double that or more. So now we're asking the cowboy shooters to step forward and help our Pards during these rough times.<br />
<br />
Probably the easiest and fastest way to help is to mail a check to the Good Guys Posse mailbox at P.O. Box 1130, Crystal Lake, IL 60039-1130 made out to the Good Guys Posse, Inc. with a note saying it's for Longdrink and White Thunder. Then we'll mail a single check to them noting that it is from all the cowboy shooters. Please have your checks to us by December 10th so we can get these funds to them well before Christmas.<br />

I sincerely hope we can help to make Christmas a little more cheerful for our friends, Longdrink & White Thunder.<br />

Seldom do I get serious about anything, but I would hope that everyone would get behind this one and realize that even twenty bucks could add up to a good number if enough shooters throw in a few bucks. This would be relief for some of the many little things that Longdrink shouldn't have to be troubling himself with at this time. <br />

I'm guessing that the emotional drain of the circumstances is bad enough without adding the worries of the dollars for all the little expenses that add up traveling to and from the hospital every day. Been there done that and as a number of us have also, it might be time to remember how good we got it by helping out a little bit. <br />
<br />
We very seldom dip into posse funds for anything that is not posse related business and that is why we are not doing so this time either. To be clear, the monies from the Rough Riders are exactly that, out of their pockets. That is also why I think any and all cowboy shooters might reach into their pockets now whether they belong to the posse or not. If not a note with the check, please put notation on the memo portion of whatever your might send along. <br />

P.S. I'm not going to pass along the names to Longdrink as he need not know and I think anonymous is better in this case. I'm neither as computer savy as DD or as eloquet as JJ so I don't get on here much. This is a different occasion. Most of us are at a point in our lives where if we want something we usually don't wait too long to get it. With that in mind ,rather than buying some trinkets for you and yours for Christmas, how about putting the money where it would do the most good and undoubtably be greatly appreciated.I'm talking about helping Jeese and Kathy with some Christmas Spirit. This has been a tough time for them . I'm sure anything you could send to The GGP to be forwarded to them would be a gift from heaven. THANKS IN ADVANCE, Big Grit

I've been trying to get hold of them because she makes those cancer hats. She has given many people hats to cheer them up and I agree that now we need to cheer them up.<br />

I went by the Post Office today to empty the mailbox and was I shocked!. The number of checks was beyond my highest expectations. <br />

Thanks to all who contributed! This morning I put a check in the mail to Longdrink and White Thunder. I'm sure this will help to lift the heavy burden they face at this time of year.<br />

The great response shows the fantastic spirit and compassion that is a hallmark of the cowboy shooters. If we receive any late donations, we'll followup with another check after the first of the year, so it's not too late to be of help to one of our Pards.<br />

Howdy!<br />
I saved the opening of all our Christmas cards til today, because I had hatched the plan to have Kate home by Christmas and wanted to do it together. Well, we just completed that mission. I am practially speechless. Cowboy Action shooters and the Good Guys in particular are with out doubt the finest people in the world.
