Cleaning Brass?

I have been having trouble with the media that I have bought lately. It seems to clean well the first time or two but after that it leaves fine powdery residue and does not shine up the brass well. Does anyone have a brand or type that works well, and how about any homemade recipes?

A few years back I bought the media (ground walnut shells I think) that is impregnated with jeweler's rouge. I've been using it for years and it still works great. Might take a little longer than when I first bought it and the residue when you first dump the brass for sizing is a little of a pain, but it works and that's what counts. So as you sort through the brass the first time you get coated in red rouge, but that's not anything new if you've worked in the back of a jewelry store.

I use the same stuff as JJ and also corn cob. I like to throw them in the walnut for a bit then into the corn cob to remove any of the jeweler's rouge that remains.

Add a cap full or 2 of your favorite liquid car wax run it for 10 minutes then add the brass should cure your problem.<br />

I've often wondered if the rouge wears down barrels and parts <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbdown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thumbdown:' /> I just tumbled some 357 for 3 days and it is spotless with no residue (yes I forgot about it) <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' />

I use Corn Cob media from Gander. It seems to last about a season of shooting and still going strong.<br />

There's a place here in Woodstock that sells corn cob. Atleast they did last time I talked to them. I'll check with them and if anybody wants some, I'll get a bag (50 lbs.) and we can split it up. I have been using corn cob for years and it works fine with a little Dillon's or Midway brass polish. I have used Brasso but have been told it harms the brass. <br />
