How to Get to the Dry Gulch Ranch Cowboy Range

Hope to see you there!!

Changes coming!

A new major version of the software we use for the Hitching Post forum has been out for awhile, but I've been holding off a bit to install it. First, I wanted to see how it was working out and to see some minor maintenance releases to cure any unseen problems. I also wanted to wait until the shooting season was over and the website had quieted down a bit so as not to cause disruption.

The time for the change has arrived. Since this is a major revision, there will a lot of work getting the new version up and running properly along with all the changes necessary to alter the "bare bones" software to our style. My intention is to set up a separate private forum to test the software and to install the revisions we'll need prior to making it public - the current revisions (skins) are not compatible with nor transferable to the new version. Thus, I'll be doing a lot of raw coding in HTML, CSS and PHP. Hopefully, I'll be able to get all the reprogramming done "behind the scenes" and make a seamless transition - lots of luck with that!

The new software will have many advantages, particularly in security, flexibility and administration. The new site will look different, have some added features and once you get familiar with it, I believe you'll like it much better. There will be times when the site is down for short periods and times when the colors and layout will be temporarily different. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you notice any problems as I may not be aware of them. This may take some time with the holidays and all but it will give me something to do while Mild Millie wants me out from under foot as she prepares for the big day!
• I agree with Jim, but you scared me when you mentioned "change". Your Nobel Prize is on the way.

The difference being that this is a change for the better - it isn't like that other "change". The Nobel Peace Prize really should go to JJ as he is the most peaceful fellow I know.

Update time! Progress is being made as I have the time. There is precious little that is the same between the two versions and I've found I have a lot more to do than I originally thought.

For the curious, here is a snapshot of the test site where I'm working on the updated Hitching Post. Much will be different and much will be the same. As you can see from the snapshot, I've got some colors to change yet and also some errors - oops! - to iron out. Fortunately, I can get this done without disrupting the existing forum.
