Hope to see you there!!

Serial number to date the rifle?

Okay, I posted a similar request on the SASS Wire, but figure it can't hurt to put it here also. Recently acquired a Navy Arms Yellow Boy Carbine (19") in 44/40. Serial number is three digits with no letters before or after it. Looks to be unfired and with only three digits in the serial number I'm thinking it ain't exactly recent mfg. <br />
<br />
Any experts out there on Uberti mfg. dating? Hell I'll listen to any suggestions on where to look to date the gun. <br />
<br />
Thanks for any help in advance...

    Sounds like it could be rare. Maybe you shouldn't shoot it. <br />

  • I agree with SK. <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/drinks.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':drinks:' /> You better turn it over to me to take care of. <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cool:' /><br />
    Besides you don't have any bullets that big!! <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':happy:' /><br />

    Probably one of the rare smooth bore models.

    I can't shoot it because I have no 44/40 ammo. As to giving it over to anyone for safe keeping, I'm thinking it could be arranged for the correct number of pictures of dead presidents. Already got four cowboy rifles in 38 and don't think I'll start loading in 44/40. Besides this one has this metal ring hanging off the side of the receiver on the left side that I'm not sure what you do with... Is that where you put the screw driver for carrying in case you have to get the cartridge out of the action when it hangs up in there?

    Are you sure it's 44-40 not 44 rimfire?

    You need to watch out for that ring. It might get caught on your facial piercings in the beat of competition. <br />

    If you want to shoot it, JJ, I have plenty of 44-40 cowboy rounds. I suppose I could spare you some.

    JJ, this is a great opportunity to buy some nee dies, primers and bullets.
