SPECIAL MESSAGE

The recently passed CCW Bill , HB-183 (as amended) contains a provision to allow local governments to retain bans on semi-auto firearms (so called “Assault Weapons Ban”), or to enact new bans within 10 days of HB-183 becoming law. (ie. If signed by the governor or if it passes into law)
As a result of this, ISRA has received word of several communities holding special city council meetings, or adding items to their agenda to consider this. In towns that never had such a ban in their ordinances before or never felt the need for it, some municipal leaders suddenly feel compelled, spurred to action by messages sent from Lt Gov. Sheila Simon and local representatives.

What’s at stake? Your right to defend yourself and your family with effective tools, as the firearm that you already own can be impacted by a nebulous “Assault Weapons Ban”. The basic version of this ban usually includes the most popular civilian semi-auto rifle, the AR-15.
It is very important that members stay vigilant of what’s going on in their communities with regards to this issue. Please call the ISRA office or email the ISRA hotline (hotline@isra.org) if you hear about special meetings or agenda items. ISRA can help make sure that your fellow gun owners in your community are made aware so that you can deliver an appropriate message at your city council meetings. ISRA will make resources like talking points and crime stats available to help members deliver an effective message, check for a new webpage soon at:
