I wonder if he's pandering to the loonier libtards, or if the BPD is going to start getting a lot of calls from "burner" cell phones that trigger searches ("... upon arriving at the location and innocently knocking on the door we smelled marijuana and/or saw people fleeing out the back door in a suspicious manner, so we searched and found a meth lab..."), or while he was at the last police convention and some other top cop jokingly dared him to hold a press conference and ask for volunteers.
Seems like the BPD along with the attorney general up there could be splitting up a bunch of proceeds from confiscated items.

Yeah he's just trying to help out.

When Homeland Security or the FBI or ATF or IRS ring the doorbell and insist on searching, you thank them for coming, hand the box to the person with the warrant and tell them your crazy friend was off his meds while visiting last week and told you he hid the grenades around the house. Inform the officer that you'll wait across the street and ask him/her to be very careful when opening things or moving furniture.
"Amidst backlash from the public, the Beloit Police Department withdrew its offer to inspect homes for illegal firearms about a week after it announced the program."

"Jacobs said he hoped the program would give the community an opportunity to address the violence seen in the city this year. The city has experienced 51 shots fired incidents and six of the eight homicides this year were gun related."

"The police did recover one gun during a voluntary inspection, Jacobs said. The homeowner was aware of the firearm and wanted it removed from the home, Jacobs added."

"The program was voluntary and written consent from the property owner was needed before any search would be conducted."

<sarcasm>So, another great local government program falls due to the noise of a few nattering nabobs of negativism (aka those conservatives who bitterly cling to their guns and Constitution).</sarcasm>
Seriously, I wonder when enough Americans will realize (and publicly admit) that the "War" on drugs was an even bigger mistake than Prohibition and end it? Legalize the drugs, regulate and tax them, and end the profit motive for the violent behavior of the pushers, gangs, and cartels. I also wonder how many law enforcement agency managers would resist ending the "war" because it would result in budget cuts and loss of Federal (free money!) funding? <img src='http://www.goodguysposse.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbdown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
I'm sure, all of us would clear out these types, related or not. That isn't the case with everyone. I don't believe most Police are out to "get" us. A simple phone call to the P D, could rid their home of contraband and possibly some neer-do-wells.
